Canada is laggard when it comes to police-worn body cameras. Numerous other countries have mandated police body cameras for years. The benefits of body cameras is numerous:
- deterrence to acting out by subjects
- deterrence to unprofessional conduct by police officers
- fewer complaints against officers
- video evidence of situation
- demonstration of openness and transparency by law enforcement
- Alberta is the first province in Canada to making police body cameras mandatory!
How about security professionals?
The reality is that security professionals are often the first responders to situations, often are expected to observe and possibly engage in volatile situations, are less respected than police, and have less tools to help them manage situations.
Security professionals need body cameras as much as police.
