Many provinces do not consider “bouncers” working in bars and night clubs to be “security”. They are not licenced or regulated like security guards. However, bouncers are the most active security professionals!
- they engaged with hundreds of people in altered mental states daily
- they de-escalate situations involving people in altered mental states daily
- they physically escort patrons out of the establishment almost daily
Very few other security posts have this much active interaction.
Bouncers must still strictly abide by the Criminal Code and Charter. If they fail, they and the establishment are subject to criminal prosecution and civil litigation. “I didn’t know” is not a valid excuse. It’s your job. Know your rights and responsibilities.
