A review of Saskatchewan hospital safety and security

Across Canada, hospital emergency rooms are chaotic. Security professionals are the first line of defense and first responders when called to situations. They report that general frustration of the patrons is increasing, and an increasing number of weapons being seized. So much so that hospitals are installing metal detectors at the entrances!

While security professionals strive for quality service, the chaotic environment does result in errors and wrongdoing.

  • On 09 January, Saskatchewan hospital security were involved in a physical altercation with Trevor Dubois. Dubois died as a result.
  • On 26 January, Saskatchewan hospital security wheeled Brydon Lafaver out of the hospital and left him in the snow.

Bystanders allege that racism was a factor in both of these incidents.

The increasing number of weapons and public demands has the Saskatchewan government launching an independent review of safety and security. CA🍁SP will be contributing to the review.
