Chronicles 6: on-duty deaths

Reporting violence against security professionals that might have been prevented by training and tools.

In October 2023, Michael Ferdinand was on duty at an Ontario casino. At least four young adults attempted to enter the casino, but were stopped and questioned by Ferdinand. Tyjae NOSWORTHY-SMITH pulled a handgun and shot Ferdinand. All then fled the scene. Three suspects were apprehended within a few months, but NOSWORTHY-SMITH is still at large. NOSWORTHY-SMITH has boasted about the killing and about not getting caught on social media.

Security professionals are expected to engage in challenging, dangerous, and litigious situations. They are unprepared in terms of their training, and in the tools they carry.
