Chronicles 6: on-duty deaths

Reporting violence against security professionals that might have been prevented by training and tools.

In October 2023, Michael Ferdinand was on duty at an Ontario casino. At least four young adults attempted to enter the casino, but were stopped and questioned by Ferdinand. A 17-year-old pulled a handgun and shot Ferdinand. All then fled the scene. Three suspects were apprehended within a few months, but the last subject is still at large. They have boasted about the killing and about not getting caught on social media.

[July 2026] The young offender was temporarily identified as part of a nation-wide manhunt. He has now been caught. CA🍁SP complied with a police request to again anonymize the young offender.

Security professionals are expected to engage in challenging, dangerous, and litigious situations. They are unprepared in terms of their training, and in the tools they carry.
