These are core courses required to get certified as a security professional and/or private investigator. Each province has different training requirements and approval processes.

National Basic Security Training

National Basic Security Training (NBST) is the foundational training program for security professionals in Canada. This training prepares security professionals to be safe and effective in their roles and responsibilities, and prepares them for specialized and advanced training for the unique posts they will have. (40 hr; 120 days to complete)

Currently, this course is valid in Atlantic and Northern Canada.

Alberta Basic Security Training

Alberta Basic Security Training is the required course to become a security professional in Alberta. Topics include legislation, communication, documentation, risk management, and situation management.
