Chronicles 3: violence against security professionals

Reporting violence against security professionals that might have been prevented by training and tools.

In December 2024, security guard Harshandeep Singh discovered people knocking on doors in an Edmonton, AB, apartment building. Evan RAIN and Judith SAULTEAUX turned their attention to the guard. RAIN brandished a shotgun, shoved Singh into a stairwell, then shot him in the back. RAIN and SAULTEAUX then walked away.

  • Singh died in the lobby of the apartment building.
  • RAIN and SAULTEAUX have pled not guilty to first-degree murder.

Security professionals are literally expected to engage in challenging, dangerous, and litigious situations. They are unprepared in terms of their training, and in the tools they carry. Training would have taught Singh to disengage the moment he saw the weapon. Physical control tactics training could have helped Singh displace the weapon long enough to disengage.
