Chronicles 2: violence against security professionals

Reporting violence against security professionals that might have been prevented by training and tools.

In January 2020, Jordan LANGELIER savagely punched, kicked, and stomped security guard Mario Ruffolo to death at the Guelph, ON, train station. Ruffolo was engaged in casual conversation with LANGELIER, and even offered him a cigarette, before LANGELIER suddenly attacked. LANGELIER peacefully surrendered to police when they arrived.

  • Ruffolo died a horrific death. His family is devastated.
  • LANGELIER was found not criminally responsible and remains held indefinitely in a psychiatric hospital.

Security professionals are literally expected to engage in challenging, dangerous, and litigious situations. They are unprepared in terms of their training, and in the tools they carry. Situational awareness and communication training could have kept LANGELIER a safer distance away.
