Security training failure

On 02 March 2026, a security guard loses emotional control and viscously assaults a subject … using brass knuckles!
Brass knuckles are a prohibited weapon in Canada.

This guard lacked the ability to control his emotions, lacked an understanding of his legal authorities, and lacked an understanding of what weapons he is allowed to carry. Or he didn’t care.

The result: an assaulted individual, the guard charged with several crimes, and civil lawsuits against the guard, their employer, and the client.

The reason: insufficient training. A 40-hour online course is not sufficient to prepare security guards for the challenging, dangerous, and litigious situations they are expected to engage in. CA🍁SP has a growing repertoire of courses at https://training.CASP.ca

Over the past 20 years, government have put extensive energy and resources into improving training for police, peace, and corrections officer. Security guards are taking on roles previously held by police. Their training needs to reflect these realities.
